JEAN-DANY JOACHIM is the Cambridge Poet Populist for 2009 -2011. As the creator and producer of City Night Reading Series, he brings together poets, writers, performers and lovers of literature for the celebration of the art of word in the Boston and NYC areas. He is the author of Chen Plenn – Leta and White Dress in January, and his work has appeared in anthologies and numerous literary magazines.
This project was developed after the 2010 earthquake in Port-au-Prince to raise money in support of the people of Haiti. It began with a large collaborative benefit reading at Harvard organized by Kim Triedman and Jim Henle involving 18 prominent Boston-area poets, and evolved into an anthology called Poets For Haiti: An Anthology of Poetry and Art, which was released this past November by Yileen Press. All proceeds from the original benefit and book sales (100%) are being donated to Partners in Health. The anthology includes poetry by both Haitian and non-Haitian poets (Robert Pinsky, Patrick Sylvain, Rosanna Warren, Marilene Phipps-Kettlewell, Lucille Clifton, etc), exquisite artwork by some of Haiti's most prominent visual artists, and a preface by Paul Farmer and Ophelia Dahl of Partners in Health. It is edited by Kim Triedman.
